This is my first HDTV and this one fits my budgets. Both picture and sound quality are great.
I was comparing this one with Samsung 650 and Sony XBR4. XBR4 is very nice, but with $800 more it is way over my budget. I like the contrast on W4100 better. I believe XBR6 will have same contrast ratio or even higher, but price will be definitely much higher too. Samsung 650 definitely has better color on HD content, due to its 10bit panel maybe, but the glossy screen will produce too much glare in my family room where it has windows all around. I was debating if 10bits panel really matters during the shopping process. But now, the TV is setup in my room and I feel very happy with the color (as I won't remember how 10bit panel on Samsung's looks like in Frys or Circuit City :) ).
The PQ on HD content is very good in local cable 1080i and 720p HD broadcast. SD content PQ is decent if you keep the Wide mode at Full mode. If you skretch to zoom to take up the full screen, the result is not good at all.
The sound quality is good too out of the box. I don't have home theater system, therefore, built-in sound is important.
So far, I enjoy this HDTV set a lot.
Amazon white glove service is nice too. They call before delivery and they unpack and setup the TV set for you. I got this set for $2399 from Amazon a week ago and the TV arrives within a week. Excellent.

Sony KDL-52W4100 Just what we expected..
We were impressed. We were looking for same equivalent of tv with the Samsung brand..it took us awhile to decide and were so relieved we went with Sony.Whew! Sleek-looking, picture is great, no need to close our windows when watching tv because no more glare! What a difference. This is actually one of the major deciding factor why we went with Sony not Samsung, even though Samsung is a little bit less expensive.

Sony KDL-52W4100 Best LCD TV Around
I have owned both LCDs this year - the popular Samsung LN52A650 and the Sony KDL52W4100. I have no hesitation in saying that I prefer the Sony way better than the Samsung. Here's why:
Plus:
- Amazing picture quality - natural colors, amazing black levels, sharpness, clarity on SD broadcasts
- Superior motion enhancement (Motionflow) even on high setting. (superior to Samsung A650 AMP)
- Stylish looks and design
- Decent speakers although I prefer to use my external home theater speakers
- Semi-matte screen reduces glare
Minus:
- Menu layout cumbersome (too much vertical scrolling)
- No remote backlight
- No swivel stand
The minuses are minor issues that I can live with. Overall this is one of the best TVs you can buy at a fair price.
Highly recommended!!

Sony KDL-52W4100 Beautiful
I've had the tv for about two weeks now and it has been great. The HD picture is amazing of course, my SD programs look great and Blu-ray movies are virtually flawless. I moved up from a 42" Plasma, which has been a great tv. The LCD is definitely brighter in my very open living room. I chose this over the Samsung 52" 650 model. While the Samsung has a slightly brighter screen and Consumer Reports loves the tv, it's very glossy screen simply reflected too much light for my viewing location. The more matte finish on the Sony has been perfect.

Sony KDL-52W4100 I love this TV!!!
After much research and local store visits for side by side comparisons, I decided to get this TV as my first ever HDTV. This TV is gorgeous to look at even when off, and the display is fantastic.
My decision came down to this set, or the Samsung 650 model. That said, my room has a lot of windows and natural light, so the glare would be horific on the Samsung. The Sony is a pleasure to watch, night or day.
Highly recommended TV. Its a Sony...you just cant go wrong.

Sony KDL-52W4100 Very Happy
I've had this TV for about a month and couldn't be happier. (I'm also happy to be done with comparing 30 different models of big screen LCDs every time I go into a store!)
I debated between this and the Samsung LN52A650. Side by side the Samsung's picture seemed brighter in the showroom. But then I decided that it was almost tooo bright. The other major factor was that the Samsung A650 has a shiny screen like the plasmas do even tho it's an LCD. I'm so glad I didn't go with that as our viewing room has a window at the back and there's plenty of reflections on the screen in any black areas of the picture.

Sony KDL-52W4100 Words cannot describe how happy this TV makes me
I love this tv. It is aesthetically pleasing. The visuals it produces are great. The motionflow and cinemotion make watching dvds, even old dvds, a totally different experience. Videogames are awesome. Good to go 5 minutes out of the box. Since its a sony I know if something happens to my TV, like dead pixels (knock on wood) i know that sony customer support will take care of me. no flaws i can think of with this tv. I hope it lasts 5 years +
**UPDATE**
It has been a month. all the pixels are intact. I got cable TV with HD channels, and it looks so good on this tv, i dont care what im watching, as long as its in HD. a troubling thing is sound seems to be cutting out sometimes. I dont know if its the cheap $2 HDMI cables i got here, but if i change the channel and change back, it works again.
I am still very happy with this TV, especially for the price I got it at
**UPDATE 2**
It has been 4 months and my TV is still going strong. I no longer experience that weird sound issue, and there are still no dead pixels. I am still very happy about my purchase
